If you are looking for a portable diamond microdermabrasion machine in 2017, there are basically only 3 machines you need to seriously consider. Even if you were to conduct your own in-depth research, chances are you will also narrow your choice down to these three:
1. Kendal Professional Diamond Microdermabrasion Machine HB-SF01
The first machine that deserves our attention is the Kendal HB-SF01. This machine has gotten a lot of positive reviews on online stores and forums lately and many readers have asked me my opinion on this one.
This is a professional machine with suction power up to 25 inHg versus 16 inHg on home machines, which means that it is a very powerful device that should be used only on the lower settings if you are new to microdermabrasion.
In fact, unless you intend to do very deep microdermabrasion, for example, to treat deep facial scars, you would only need to set it to moderate power. Most home models would suffice if your intention is to slough off dead skin to reveal radiant healthy skin.
2. New Spa Portable Diamond Microdermabrasion Machine
This machine was actually recommended to me by a good friend of mine who runs a beauty spa in Phoenix. First impressions: unlike other at home machines, this one is really sturdily constructed and encased in a heavy duty metal casing. All its parts have a professional quality to it, including the wand, and you don’t get the feeling of ‘loose parts’ that often come with home based machines.
In terms of controls – no frills and easy to operate, and the frequency knob allows you to smoothly vary the suction power. The machine comes with numerous different tips – the smaller ones allow you to reach hard-to-reach parts like that around the nose. I like to use the larger tips for my body (my chest area is acne prone and oily). For the face I usually use about 70% suction so I can use it frequently for skin rejuvenation, but about once a month I will go full suction for a really deep dermabrasion.
Personally, I find this microdermabrasion machine a cut above other portable machines. One thing to note if you are purchasing this is that the default package comes with many filters so you don’t have to immediately purchase additional ones.
3. MicrodermMD Microdermabrasion Machine
Alicia from Maturebeauty uses this machine and has gotten good results on reducing the appearance of fine lines around her eyes and mouth area. She also commented on the ease of operation and cleaning the filters.
In terms of functionality, this machine is very similar to the Kendal machine: no frills, easy to adjust suction power, and many different dermabrasion tips for different parts of the face/ body.
The only issue that most people have is that its price is steep compared to the Kendal machine. I don’t actually own this machine and have only tried it a few times on friend-owned machines so I can’t really compare its long term durability with the Kendal machine.
What I can say is that this machine functions as well as the Kendal machine (both having a maximum suction power of 16 inHg) and is as easy to use. The only point of differentiation that might justify the higher price tag is the portability of this machine as it is less ‘boxy’ and more sleek compared to the Kendal machine. So if portability is an important factor for you then perhaps the premium is well justified.
One thing that is certain is that MicrodermMD’s customer service is very responsive. According to many consumers they are speedy in repairs and replacing/ topping up accessories and parts.
