Hormones like dihydrotestosterone (DHT) play a big role in male pattern baldness. Your body naturally starts to break down testosterone as you age. The byproduct of this process is DHT, which shrinks and damages hair follicles.
DHT is a type of androgen, which is a hormone that helps regulate hair growth. An increased level of androgens in the hair follicles can delay and prevent growth.
Genetics also plays a large role in male pattern baldness, but scientists haven’t been able to determine exactly how the trait is passed.
External factors may accelerate hair loss, but play a smaller role in causing it. These factors include:

There are several ways to get thicker hair, including better grooming habits, supplements, and thickening shampoos. Perhaps the only way to “instantly” thicken the hair is to adopt a styling technique that makes your hair appear thicker.
Avoid heavy products that can weigh your hair down. Instead, choose volumizing mousse or any type of spray that says “root lift.” You can also use a blow dryer to get instant volume (just make sure not to overdo it).
Speak with your hair stylist about getting a cut that will mask bald spots/thinning hair and use.
Ditch the comb. Use your fingers to style your hair for a more volumized look.
Stop smoking cigarettes. Smoking can constrict the tiny blood vessels in your scalp that provide nutrients your hair needs to grow.
Wear a hat in the sun. UV exposure causes your scalp to produce superoxide, which can cause shedding. It can also make your hair brittle, which means it is more likely to fall out or snap off.
Stress can cause hair loss, so stop stressing out about your hair loss! Minimize stress by allocating time for yourself, exercising frequently, and doing things you enjoy.
Shampoo frequently. Use your fingers to massage the scalp for 2-3 minutes each time you shower. This will energize the scalp and bring blood to your hair follicles. Hot water can dry out your hair and skin, so it’s best to use warm or cool water in the shower.
Greasy, dirty hair tends to be flat and limp. Avoid this look with regular washing. Even better, use a thickening shampoo (more on this below).
